Hairdressing scissors are often used by stylists to cut or trim hair. Once a haircut is finished, the client pays and leaves the salon, while the stylist sweep the hair and cleans up the area. So ironically, client’s hair is of no value to any hairstylist. However, if your client is a celebrity, then you have a better chance of becoming a millionaire!

Celebrity hair always attracts attention and fetches good money. Recently, Elvis Presley’s hair was sold at an auction for more than $18,000. The King of Rock n Roll was definitely a great singer but I fail to understand why one would pay so much money for a small chunk of Elvis hair? It’s believed that the locks were snipped from Presley with the help of hairdressing scissors when he joined the Army in 1958.

The most interesting thing about the auction of Elvis hair was that nobody ever questioned their authenticity! No DNA test was carried out on the hair but the auctioneer quoted “an expert in celebrity hair authentication,” John Reznikoff, saying it matched the Elvis hair he has in his collection.

I have been pondering over the thought as to why celebrity hair is in so much demand? Why is it that people are ready to spend crazy amounts of money, just for the sake of a few hair locks! Why does celebrity hair get auctioned for high money whereas hair of common people like you and me find their place in the trash can!

You all might remember how the haircut of MJ’s daughter had created a sensation a few weeks ago. The Paris Jackson haircut attracted such coverage that it became a trendsetter. To be frank her stylists did nothing special with her style. They just cut her hair with hairdressing scissors and styled them a bit to give her a cute look. There was no special treatment given to her hair, but I guess celebrity hair has some special charm that they get so much attention.

Is there are different effect for either one and is one more damaging to the hair than the other?
*I have thin straight long black hair

I suggest using regular scissors to layer your hair. If you use thinning shears to layer your hair, you might thin out too much hair where it will not give you the desired style you are looking for.
