I am making a double sided fleece blanket and instead of doing the no sew method I want to sew it. I’ve been told that sewing fleece can be tricky. Can anyone give me any advice? Also I’m thinking of just sewing it flat right side out and then going around the edge with pinking shears. I don’t want to sew and then flip it right side out. Do you think this will look good the way I’m thinking of doing it? I’m a little unsure because this will be my first time sewing fleece.

http://www.oaktrees.org/nursing/polarFleece.FAQ.txt is a FAQ I wrote years ago. Your basic problem will be keeping the fabrics lined up and not buckling or stretching out of shape, and squaring everything up both before starting and after sewing.

Dumb question: Why do you want to make this a double thickness, as opposed to simply adding a second single thickness blanket when you get cold? Fleece is "grabby", and it will tend to make movable lumps of fabric between the two layers. It’s also more to stuff in a washing machine when it’s dirty, and will take longer to dry.

And yes, if you still intend to sew it, I’d sew it wrong sides together and just trim the edges… probably using a rotary cutter and mat, since I own both. Pinking shears are going to give you sore hands after a bit.
